Corona viruses cause various diseases in humans. The novel coronavirus occurs as a causative agent of everything from mild colds to severe diseases.

The name of the newly identified coronavirus is SARS-CoV-2, and the actual disease that the virus can cause and that is considered to be the trigger of the coronavirus epidemic is called COVID-19.

With the coronavirus, the generally recommended hygiene measures apply, which also protect against an influenza infection. Do not cough or sneeze into your hands, but into the crook of your arm or into a handkerchief. Also make sure that you wash your hands properly and keep your distance from those who are ill. Anyone who shows cold symptoms should first call their family doctor's practice and describe the symptoms. They will then clarify the further procedure. If nobody can be reached there and you are in Germany, the patient service of the medical on-call service can be reached around the clock at 116 117. In emergencies, please call the usual emergency numbers.

We would like to expressly warn you not to travel to countries with travel warnings, as this may also have other consequences for your insurance cover. Our travel cancellation insurance takes effect if you have to cancel your trip due to serious and unexpected illness. Please note that we take your fears and insecurities seriously, but these alone do not constitute an insured event.

In the event of an illness caused by the coronavirus, our travel cancellation insurance will take effect within the scope of our tariff benefits, as it does for any other serious illness.

Within the scope of our tariff benefits, our international health insurance protects you, as with other illnesses, also in the event of an infection with the coronavirus. Please note that if symptoms and complaints of the disease have already occurred before you apply for insurance, this is considered a pre-existing condition and therefore cannot be included in the scope of benefits.

Since a quarantine situation does not constitute an illness, it is not covered by our insurance.
